Where the water goes matters
Gutters collect the water. Downspouts and drainage decide where it goes. On the clay soil common across Johnson County, water dumped at a foundation corner soaks in, the soil swells, and over the years that movement shows up as cracks in the slab, brick and drywall. We size and place downspouts so each run drains properly, then carry the water away with extensions, splash blocks or buried drain lines that come out away from the house. We also add downspouts to gutter runs that were installed with too few, one of the most common causes of overflowing gutters we see.
How buried drain lines work
For homes with no room for a long extension, we run a buried line from the downspout to a pop-up emitter in the yard. The line slopes to drain, the emitter sits flush with the lawn, and the downspout looks the same from the street.

Common questions
How far should a downspout carry water from the house?
A few feet at minimum. On clay soil, farther is better. We look at the slope of your lot and recommend a distance at the estimate.
Can you add a downspout to my existing gutters?
Yes. Adding a downspout to a long run is a quick job and often fixes overflow without touching the rest of the gutter.
Do you handle yard drainage or French drains?
Our work covers roof water: downspouts, extensions and buried downspout lines that carry it away from the house. Tell us what you are seeing and we will let you know if it is something we handle.
Will buried lines clog?
They can if leaves get in. Gutter guards on the runs that feed them and a pop-up emitter that lifts off for cleaning keep them moving.
